POW – Protect Our Winters Sunday Shout Out

Global Snowfall (Shred White and Blue)—Just wanted to give the first official Shred White and Blue Sunday Shout Out to big mountain snowboarder Jeremy Jones’ own Protect Our Winters (POW) environmental action campaign.

There have been a lot of good marriages between action sports and the environment of late, from the OE (original environmentalist) template of the Surfrider Foundation to the mossy snow feel of the footage from Sweetgrass Productions latest films. Like them, what I like best about POW is that they are all staying so close to their grassroots.

Partners include core snow sports companies like Rossignol and Teton Gravity Research (co-founded by Jeremy’s older bros, Todd and Steve, along with Dirk Collins and Corey Gavitt), Burton and Backcountry Magazine. And the programs they’re supporting out of the starting gate include low-budget, direct-result minded projects like solar installations and film fests.

According to Jones own mission statement for POW, “Climate change is a serious issue for all of us who are passionate about our winter sports and in some cases, it’s how we make our living. If we harness our collective energy and put forth a focused effort, we can have a direct influence on reversing the damage that’s been done and ensure that winters are here for generations behind us.”

This guy rides the big lines around the world. And he rides them very well. A lot of people notice. Here at SWB we salute that such a talented guy is so much more interested in talking about the snow than talking about himself.
